Manage Data Flow around the FIX Flow

Firms are under greater commercial and regulatory pressure to process a larger field of data beyond the parameters of the FIX protocol. Performance data related to latency and throughput are as critical to trading analysis and strategies as the orders and the execution data.

The ability to capture, manage and report the mass of peripheral data is a first-level requirement of FIX deployments today:

  • Configuration data to ensure clients can trade as planned
  • Performance data to represent and report on performance
  • Operational data to inform a user base rendered larger by rounds of infrastructure consolidations
  • Synergistic aggregations on the status of trading backbones

Catalys translates all the data to intelligence to help firms detect and capture a greater level of market opportunities, in turn better serving their customers.

FIX Trading Backbone:

Financial firms worldwide increasingly require a trading platform that does not revolve around an Order Management System. Orders today are routed from an OMS and processed through internalizers or dark pools. They fragment into slices under the direction of increasingly sophisticated execution algorithms, hitting multiple executions venues via smart routers and complex event processing platforms — all at increasingly fast speeds.

The traditional OMS cannot handle demanding levels of execution flow and actually gets in the way of the necessarily sophisticated routing decisions for these. The emerging architectural preference therefore is for a trading platform centered on an open connectivity backbone that is capable of:

  • handling increased volumes
  • providing performance triggers to capture trading opportunities, and
  • seamless integration with a complex set of specialized decision-making tools to deliver optimal trading effectiveness

Transparency for Optimized Performance

Without performance, FIX won’t go far. Firms of all sizes need optimal performance and control over real life trading activities. Catalys provides a framework to locate performance bottlenecks / outliers and provide statistical views of performance metrics of all key variables.

Pluggability

Like CameronFIX, Catalys is based on a component model with the FIX and FAST libraries at its core. Pluggable implementations then provide the various functions and services around these. The infrastructure is complemented by a large selection of technology adapters for optimal integration.

A Powerful API

Catalys nodes and services are entirely managed and configured via JMX. They are built to provide the scalability of a global management infrastructure through a single API.

Migrating to Catalys can be Painless

If you are an existing CameronFIX customer, Catalys provides migration scripts that make a transition relatively smooth. If you use other FIX engines, you will find the embedded Catalys rules engine and other modules can address many requirements with no development involved and in much less time than you might expect. Furthermore, under our guidance many CameronTec partners assist in optimizing deployments and architectures in regions where we are not present.
